We all suffer from eye puffiness or dark bags under our eyes from time to time, the causes of these symptoms range from water retention to sleep deprivation, they can even be affected from allergies we develop to makeup substances we use on a daily basis. Luckily there are a few cost effective methods of treating your eyes and restoring your skin’s youthfulness.  These are the top five we have tried and tested. 

We recommend a good pamper session at least once a month for ultimate effectiveness. The more you treat yourself to these time out sessions the faster you will see and feel results.   • Steep two tea bags in how water for 3-5 minutes
  • Cool them in a fridge for 20 mins
  • Squeeze out excess liquid until the bags are damp
  • Lie down and put the tea bags over your eyes 
  • Leave them on for 15-30 minutes
  • Remove and carefully rinse off with water

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

Have you noticed that many eye and skin treatments contain caffeine?
Caffeinated Black Tea Bags will shrink blood vessels reducing puffiness and dark circles. Caffeine also contains beneficial antioxidants, but the key ingredient is tannin. Tannins stimulate blood circulation and help tighten and sooth skin.

Top three methods:
1. Use freshly cut cucumber slices

2. Soak cotton balls in the cucumber juice 

3. Grate cucumbers to make a sap

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

The ascorbic acids found in cucumbers decrease water retention on the skin around the eyes. This will reduce the swelling and puffiness and also revitalise the skin. These plants also have a mild skin bleaching effect, reducing the appearance of dark circles.

Method:
Refresh your face with an ice-cold water wash as soon as you wake up. This is also great if you hit the snooze button one too many times. If your eyes feel extra tired and puffy, soak a cloth, squeeze and lay over eyes.

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

The cold water works as a vain constriction which slows blood flow to the area. This in turn, reduces redness and inflammation.

Not a fan of cold water? It’s cool, try placing spoons in the refrigerator overnight and then over eyes in the morning.

Top three recipes: 

1. Mix two egg whites gently and simply apply a layer under your eyes and let it dry for 15
minutes, then wash off.

2. Mix egg whites with potato juice and whisk. Apply this mixture under your eyes and let it dry for 15 minutes, then wash off.

3. Gently mix egg whites with the juice of half a lemon. Soak in a thick tissue or paper towel
and place it under your eyes for 30 minutes, then wash off.

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

Egg whites contain a high level of proteins and vitaminE that help tighten skin. This reduces the appearance of eye bags. Eggs, like cucumbers, also have skin lightening properties. Regular application reduces the build up of dark pigmentation, which also lessen the appearance of wrinkles.
